چکیده

Background: Thyroid nodules are common problems encountered in our routine practice. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is the most accurate and cost-effective method for evaluating thyroid nodules. It procedure of choice identifying patients who require surgical excision. Methods: This a retrospective single-center observational study Salmaniya Medical Complex, tertiary care center, Kingdom Bahrain that aims to correlate preoperative FNAC results with post-surgical histopathology report, compare diagnostic performance previously published literature. Results: The post-operative histology was reported as benign 62% malignant 38% patients. Bethesda II category sample, 14.3% having final histopathological diagnosis malignancy (false negative results). Malignancy found 84% 96.8% V VI, respectively. Our data achieved an 80.95% sensitivity, specificity 93.51% specificity, total accuracy 87.86%. positive predictive value 91.07%, 85.71% value, which were comparable from series. Conclusions: remains However, its varies among different institutions. demonstrated higher rates compared other series both I II. Due chance false these categories slow-growing nature malignancy, it important should have periodic clinical radiological follow up.

Evaluation of Solitary Thyroid Nodule with Correlation of Preoperative Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology with Postoperative Histopathology

Introduction localized thyroid enlargement with rest of the thyroid apparently normal is clinically defined as solitary nodule of thyroid. STN is seen in 4-6% of the adult individuals. Fortunately the likelihood that a single thyroid nodule is malignant is approximately 5%. Nodules decreasing in size have negligible risk of cancer and no treatment is required. However, enlarging solid nodules h...

Evaluation of Soft Tissue Tumors by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and Its Correlation with Histopathology: A Retrospective Study in a Tertiary Care Center

Background and objectives: Soft tissue is a non-epithelial extraskeletal tissue of the body. Soft tissue tumors (STTs) are the most commonly diagnosed neoplasms. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is minimally invasive, quick, and a definitive diagnostic modality. Biopsy for histopathology is the gold standard method for diagnosis but is invasive. The aims of this study were to determine th...

Ultrasound and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology Correlation of Thyroid Nodules

Purpose: High resolution grey scale ultrasound has emerged as an initial imaging modality of choice for the evaluation of patients with thyroid enlargement. Thyroid malignancy cannot be diagnosed on ultrasonography but various sonographic features in combination can be used to predict malignancy in thyroid lesions. The aim of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonographic...

Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology versus Fine Needle Capillary Sampling in Cytological Diagnosis of Thyroid Lesions

Background and Objectives: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is an established out- patient procedure used in primary diagnosis of palpable thyroid lesions. A modified technique fine needle capillary sampling (FNCS) obviates the need of suction, is less painful, patient friendly and reported to overcome the problem of inadequate and bloody specimens. The aim of our study was to compare the...
